Many in the GTA have fallen into neglect when it comes to routine plumbing maintenance and wait only until something goes wrong. Although plumbing may be running smoothly on the surface, regular maintenance can help you avoid costly repairs and unnecessary emergencies.
If you let a small plumbing problem go, it may end up becoming an expensive headache for you. Fixing leaks, clearing up clogs or dealing with rectified (right away) small issues will save on big-time, where both time and money are concerned later.
Caring for your plumbing means it will last longer. By taking proper care and maintenance, the corrosion that naturally takes place will not be able to make your system break down prematurely.
Routine checks catch minor issues before they lead to unexpected breakdowns. The peace of mind that comes with knowing your plumbing is in good condition is invaluable for any homeowner.
To keep your plumbing in top shape, try these simple monthly tasks:
Check all faucets, under sinks, and around appliances for leaks. Even small leaks can worsen quickly, so fix them early to avoid bigger problems.
Ensure your sinks and tubs drain properly. Natural cleaning methods, like vinegar and baking soda, can help clear any minor clogs and keep drains fresh.
Water pressure should stay within 30-80 psi. Use a pressure gauge to monitor it and avoid putting unnecessary stress on your plumbing.
In the GTA, the changing seasons affect your plumbing. Here are some essential seasonal tasks:
Before winter, insulate exposed pipes and flush outdoor plumbing to prevent freezing.
After winter, inspect outdoor faucets and sprinklers for damage.
An unexpectedly high water bill may indicate a leak somewhere in your home. Regularly check for unusual usage to catch issues early.
If you notice persistent leaks, fluctuating water pressure, or unusual pipe sounds, it’s time to call a professional. These could indicate underlying issues that need expert attention.
